Seventeen years after admitting to the murder of her boyfriend through poisoning, Purdie Guerra Clark is breaking her silence from within the walls of a Texas prison. Her story resurfaces as the focal point of the final episode of Oxygen‘s Snapped: Behind Bars season three, which is scheduled to air on December 28 at 6 p.m. ET.

This marks the first time Purdie has spoken publicly since being handed a 40-year prison sentence for her crime. In a gripping preview of the episode, she is described as a woman whose romantic entanglements have been shadowed by a series of mysterious deaths.

During an August 28, 2025 interview, recorded at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit women’s prison in Gatesville, Texas, Purdie offers her perspective on the events and media portrayals that have defined her past.

“I just feel like, you know, after 17 years, maybe it’s time to speak out about something,” she candidly states in the preview. “I’ve come to terms with my soul and God about what I did.” Her words suggest a quest for understanding and perhaps, a step toward redemption.

In the interview taped at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit women’s prison in Gatesville, Texas, on August 28, 2025, Purdie reflects on her past–and how her story has been told by others.

“I just feel like, you know, after 17 years, maybe it’s time to speak out about something,” she shares in the preview. “I’ve come to terms with my soul and God about what I did.”

Who did Purdie Clark murder?

In June 2011, Purdie pleaded guilty to the 2009 killing her boyfriend, James Thomas “Bud” Phillips in exchange for a 40-year sentence.

Investigators initially viewed Bud’s death as suspicious, noting his rapid decline and inconsistencies in Purdie’s accounts, which led to a deeper inquiry into her relationships and possible financial motives.

Bud’s autopsy revealed that he died from a lethal dose of strychnine, which was found in his ice cream, Oxygen previously reported.

Find out more about the case and what Purdie shares when Snapped: Behind Bars airs Sunday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. ET.
