Megyn Kelly has hinted that more revelations are on the horizon concerning Bari Weiss, who recently took on the role of editor-in-chief at CBS News.
In a somewhat cryptic message posted on X this Tuesday, Kelly, 55, suggested forthcoming disclosures following her recent controversial remarks about Weiss, 41, during an interview with Vanity Fair.
During the interview, Kelly expressed that both Weiss and former associate Ben Shapiro might inadvertently be contributing to a surge in antisemitism by suppressing certain types of discourse.
Weiss had previously published a speech by Shapiro on her news platform, The Free Press, in which he criticized conservatives who failed to distance themselves from Candace Owens during the Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event last Thursday.
This speech specifically mentioned Kelly and was accompanied by a Free Press article titled “Only Cowards Tolerate Conspiracy Theorists.”
The characterization was clearly on Kelly’s mind Tuesday as she responded to an inquiry from pollster Frank Luntz about the tone of the Vanity Fair piece, given she and Weiss were once friends.
‘I was reliably informed this week that it is cowardly not to call out your friends with the unvarnished truth about their defects,’ Kelly wrote, making a reference to how Shapiro, 41, accused her of cowardice in his own speech.
‘So my days of being a polite friend (to her) are over. And there’s more truth coming.’
Megyn Kelly claimed on Tuesday that there is ‘more truth coming’ regarding CBS News’ new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss
Kelly launched a shocking broadside against Weiss, 41, this week in an interview with Vanity Fair where she confirmed their friendship is over
The X post has been viewed more than 1.4million times.
In her interview with Vanity Fair, Kelly took aim at Weiss for being part of ‘this very loud group of pro-Israel activists that is trying to make this the litmus test about whether you get to call yourself a conservative’ while also homing in on Shapiro.
‘Bari in particular has made her career on the anti-cancel culture thing. Meanwhile, she’s never been canceled. And she’s basically supporting Ben’s attempt to cancel me from the conservative movement, of which she’s not a part.’
She also claimed Weiss and Shapiro’s stance on anti-Israel rhetoric was only breeding antisemites.
‘What Charlie [Kirk] and I saw at the same time was that the country is turning,’ Kelly explained, after mentioning Tucker Carlson’s interview with Texas Senator Ted Cruz in June.
‘Young Republicans are turning on Israel.’
She said that figures like Shapiro and Weiss are only adding fuel to the fire by engaging in censorship.
‘They are making antisemites,’ she said. ‘Tucker is not making antisemites. They are.’
She made the claim in a cryptic X post replying to a conservative pollster who asked about the pair’s falling out
Weiss, 41, is seen as a guest on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show last year. Kelly said on Monday that her refusal to host ideas critical of Israel have had the opposite effect
On Thursday, Shapiro, 41, warned ‘the conservative movement is in serious danger’ thanks to ‘grifters’ and conservative ‘charlatans who claim to speak in the name of principle but actually traffic in conspiracist and dishonesty’ like Carlson, who hosted far-right influencer Nick Fuentes on his show this year.
Shapiro added, ‘The same holds true of Megyn Kelly, a person I consider a friend.’
Kelly initially responded on X: ‘Only cowards take to the national stage or X to attack their “friends” without so much as a phone call to discuss it.’
‘I don’t think we are friends anymore,’ Kelly added. ‘I’ve been a very good friend to Ben. Nobody knew who the heck Ben Shapiro was when I started putting him on my shows on the Fox News Channel.
‘And I helped make him a star.’
She added in the interview with Vanity Fair: ‘Why would you divide the American conservative movement – which was gelling, which was becoming much more cohesive for a moment after Charlie died – over Israel?’
She also said Shapiro – who appeared on her SiriusXM show over the summer – is ‘Israel first’.
‘I never posted the black square and I never raised my fist at a restaurant,’ Kelly said of her refusal to play ball, while referring to signs of solidarity seen during Black Lives Matter protests that took place after the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
Weiss shared a speech Shapiro gave at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest that criticized conservatives for not disavowing Candace Owens on her news site, The Free Press, on Thursday
‘And I’m certainly not going to condemn the people Ben Shapiro demands I condemn in order to be in his imaginary club.
‘”Denounce, denounce, condemn, disassociate.” F*ck you!’ Kelly concluded.
Owens, after repeatedly suggesting Israel had a part in Kirk’s assassination since his death in September, wrote on X as well: ‘Ben only cares about Israel’s interests. So Israel is involved.’
Owens – a former Turning Point USA communications director – maintains that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was not responsible for the murder. She also previously worked for Shapiro at the Daily Wire. The two parted ways last year due to Owens’ stance on Israel.
Weiss’s first stint as the head of major news organization, meanwhile, has been met with a rocky start. Her decision to pull a 60 Minutes segment at the eleventh hour last week has been widely ridiculed, according to industry insiders.
A failed search for a big name to host for CBS Evenings and disappointing ratings for a highly publicized town hall with Erika Kirk has also shown her inexperience, sources said.
Kelly praised Weiss – a former New York Times opinion writer who resigned in protest of the paper in 2020 – when she was hired by new Paramount boss David Ellison in October and received $150million for the Free Press.
‘@bariweiss deserves every bit of this success and I am thrilled to see her rewarded for all of her hard work. Go get ‘em B,’ Kelly wrote at the time.
Weiss, a staunch Israel supporter and fierce critic of modern ‘woke’ culture, offered three heart emojis in reply.
The Daily Mail reached out to Weiss and Kelly for comment.
