In a tragic incident on a Sunday afternoon, a Georgia man lost his life while out for a walk with his dog at a park in Gainesville. The victim, Terry Wayne Loden, aged 70, was fatally shot alongside his pet following an altercation between his dog and another man’s dog.
Authorities have identified Todd Alexander Stalcup, 52, as the alleged shooter in this case. According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the confrontation began when the dogs of the two men, who were strangers to each other, became aggressive and started fighting. In the heat of the moment, Stalcup reportedly shot both Loden and his dog.
After the shooting, Stalcup remained at the scene for a brief period before leaving. However, law enforcement officers were able to apprehend him approximately 15 minutes later, ensuring he was taken into custody for the incident.
Cheryle Loden, the wife of the victim, was present during the shocking event. She recounted the moment with deep sorrow, stating, “When he fell, I just said, ‘I gotta call 911. I gotta call 911,’” as she told WANF. The shooter, she recalled, responded dismissively, saying, ‘Yeah, you do that.’”
“When he fell, I just said, ‘I gotta call 911. I gotta call 911,’” she told WANF. “And [the shooter] just said, ‘Yeah, you do that.’”
She said her husband was immediately pulling their dog, Jesse, back when the dogs started fighting.
“He was on top of her pulling her off and about that time, the man just shot my dog, and Terry stood up and said, ‘Man what are you doing?’ And he just shot him,” Cheryle Loden said.
Terry Loden had been on the phone with his granddaughter when he was shot.
Stalcup has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
