A tragic accident in Texas left a young boy as the sole survivor of his family after a devastating car crash, allegedly caused by a drunk driver.

The Contreras family was nearly wiped out in the incident that took place around 2 a.m. on December 20 in Fort Bend, as they were returning home from a Christmas celebration, according to information from the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office.

At the scene, authorities found Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, 27, and five-year-old Camila Peña deceased. The family’s three-year-old son and his father, 26-year-old Diego Peña Jr., were urgently taken to the hospital via airlift.

Despite medical efforts, Diego Peña Jr. could not be saved. His son, now left without immediate family, remains in stable yet critical condition.

Law enforcement officials have apprehended 27-year-old Majesti Faith Lee, who faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in connection with the crash.

The family of four from Harris County was driving North from the holiday party when Lee was allegedly traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

Officials said alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

Lee was also airlifted and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the press release.

‘Our hearts are with the family as they endure an unimaginable loss,’ said Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan.

‘This tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be changed when impaired driving occurs, and why making responsible choices behind the wheel is so critical.’

The siblings of Lizbeth and Diego set up a GoFundMe in an effort to help support the young boy and the grieving family cover medical expenses.

‘Lizbeth and Diego’s world revolved around their children, as was evident since their young family was inseparable,’ the GoFundMe wrote.

‘Diego recalls the moment his life changed when he found out he was going to be a father. He took naturally to being a very involved dad and took great pride in working overtime along with Lizbeth to provide for their young family.’

The fundraiser said Lizbeth absolutely loved being a mother to her mini-me, Camila, and to the three-year-old, and that she was also a beloved 4th-grade teacher at Metcalf Elementary School.

Her daughter was also a pre-k student at the same school, and they got to spend every day together, which Camila absolutely loved.

‘Camila had a contagious smile that would make it impossible for you to have a bad day when you were with her,’ the GoFundMe added.

The fundraiser noted that Camila’s best friend was her little brother.

As the family grieves, they ask for thoughts and prayers. The GoFundMe nearly reached its $100,000 goal.

Lee’s bond has been set at $1,050,000.
