BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – On Christmas morning, authorities in Brevard County halted all southbound traffic on Interstate 95. This action followed the capture of a reckless driver by the Florida Highway Patrol, which subsequently led to the arrest of both the driver and a passenger, as reported by the agency.
The interruption occurred between Titusville and Mims and lasted for around two hours, with the highway reopening to regular traffic by approximately 1:20 p.m.
An FHP spokesperson detailed that the pursuit involved a 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class exhibiting dangerous driving behavior in the southbound lanes. The chase concluded with a trooper executing a PIT maneuver, resulting in both vehicles veering off the road and colliding with a guardrail.
The trooper involved was taken to the hospital to receive care for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the statement.
In the aftermath, both the driver and passenger of the Mercedes-Benz were detained. Notably, the passenger was revealed to have an outstanding warrant from Broward County, the spokesperson added.
FHP is still investigating.
