In a distressing incident that has captured public attention, two teenage girls have been taken into custody following the release of alarming footage showing a 13-year-old girl being brutally attacked at a beach in Melbourne. The assault, which occurred earlier this month, has sparked widespread concern.

The two suspects, both aged 15, were apprehended by detectives after the young victim was reportedly assaulted near a restroom facility close to Mordialloc Pier. The attack happened around 1:30 p.m. on December 17.

The disturbing video footage depicts the victim being subjected to a vicious assault, including being stomped on, kicked, and punched while she lay defenseless on the ground.

A man, believed to be in his 50s, intervened during the attack, effectively putting an end to the alleged assault. Following his intervention, the two girls fled the scene, according to police reports.

Thankfully, the young victim sustained only minor injuries from the incident. Nonetheless, the event has raised significant concerns regarding youth violence and safety in public spaces.

The two 15-year-olds were interviewed by police and released pending further enquiries.

Investigators are looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the alleged assault or those with dashcam or CCTV footage near the scene.

Detectives would also like to speak to the good Samaritan who helped the victim.
