Jamie Lynn Spears gifts 'accident-prone' daughter Maddie an ATV despite teen almost dying in crash

This holiday season, Jamie Lynn Spears stirred up some controversy with a gift she chose for her eldest daughter.

On Thursday, the 34-year-old actress surprised 17-year-old Maddie with a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV), a decision that raised eyebrows given Maddie’s near-fatal ATV accident nearly ten years ago.

The present, a shiny red Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4, was prominently highlighted in an Instagram carousel that showcased snapshots and clips from the family’s festivities.

One image in the series captured a close-up of the ATV’s front, adorned with a large red bow and a cheerful sign boldly displaying “Maddie!”

In another heartwarming shot, Maddie, all smiles, was seen perched on her new ride, with her 7-year-old half-sister, Ivey, joyfully seated behind her.

“Merry CHRISTMAS ✝️🤶🏻🎀🎄🎁,” their mom captioned the post.

Maddie commented, “wow you did me so dirty,” prompting Spears to reply, “I can’t win here.” The context is unclear.

The teen famously survived a near-fatal accident in February 2017 when she was just 8 years old.

At the time, it was reported that she was riding a Polaris ATV in Louisiana, where she lives, when she overcorrected to avoid a ditch, which caused the vehicle to flip and enter a pond.

Maddie remained trapped underwater beneath the vehicle for long enough that she lost consciousness, despite Spears and her husband Jamie Watson’s efforts to save her.

She was eventually rescued by emergency responders but remained in critical condition as she was airlifted to a hospital, where she was hooked up to a ventilator.

Maddie was discharged a few days later, making a full recovery.

She addressed the terrifying “accident” for the first time in August, briefly explaining in a YouTube video, “I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed.”

The University of Southern Mississippi student described herself as “very accident-prone” and her parents as “amazing.”

“They did not do anything to me,” she insisted.
