A tragic incident unfolded in Pennsylvania, where a woman has been charged with the murder of her 23-year-old daughter following a fatal stabbing.
Diane Grovola, 57, also inflicted wounds on the family dog before turning the knife on herself, according to a report by the Delco Daily Times.
The distressing scene came to light when police were summoned to the Upper Darby Township residence around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. John Grovola, Diane’s husband, had returned home from his UPS job to discover the horrific events. He was greeted by their injured dog and then by Diane, who was seated on the living room couch with a knife in hand, confessing, “I stabbed our daughter.”
John rushed to his daughter’s bedroom, only to find her lying unresponsive on her back, eyes open. He quickly returned to the living room to call 911. During the call, Diane reportedly expressed a desire to end her own life and began stabbing herself.
Following guidance from the dispatcher, John exited the house. As he did so, he witnessed Diane discarding the knife. He also reported that she stripped off her clothes and began breaking items in the kitchen until the police arrived on the scene.
Police found her naked, covered in blood, with superficial cuts on her body. She resisted arrest and was forcibly secured.
“Sorry, I should have stabbed myself first,” she told officers, according to the complaint against her.
The daughter, Daniele Grovola, suffered cuts to her face, chest, legs, and back and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
After obtaining a search warrant, police found a large, black-handled knife stuck in the living room wall with apparent blood on it.
The dog was transported to a veterinarian facility where it was treated for its injuries.
Diane Grovola was charged with criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
She was denied bond.
