A 32-year-old man from California has been apprehended and faces charges for the murder of his half-brother and the attempted murder of his half-brother’s two children.
According to the Redlands Police Department, officers responded to a report of gunshots at an apartment on Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Aaron Richard Rivera had been fatally shot.
The suspect had escaped from the location, leaving the gas stove’s burners turned on while Rivera’s two children were asleep.
“Evidence and testimonies from family members identified the suspect as Zackary Aaron Brodowski, the victim’s half-brother,” stated the police. “Surveillance footage from the apartment complex captured Brodowski departing the scene soon after the shooting, driving away in a silver 2008 Ford Focus.”
Authorities tracked Brodowski to his residence in Calimesa, where he was taken into custody without any issues. Officers also recovered a firearm believed to be the murder weapon and clothing that matched the description from the surveillance footage.
Brodowski is being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center.
