Authorities have identified a body found on Christmas Day as that of an Ohio doctor who went missing in late November.
Lt. Jon Leach from the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Cletus Iwuagwu’s body was discovered by individuals walking through the Stone Oak area, submerged in a pond in Springfield Township. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office announced on Friday that the 71-year-old had drowned and there is no evidence of foul play, as per WTVG.
Iwuagwu was last seen by his family on November 24 at his workplace. Although his daughter received notifications about his movements, the police were unable to locate him at any of those sites.
Before his disappearance, Iwuagwu had been discharged from the hospital. His phone was missing, prompting an extensive search across Holland and Springfield Townships after the device indicated a signal from a nearby cell tower.
Professionally, Iwuagwu was a geriatric medicine practitioner at UToledo Health and served as a professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toledo’s College of Medicine and Life Sciences.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death is ongoing.
