ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced the postponement of their Sunday evening game against the South Carolina Stingrays. This decision comes in light of an ongoing player strike organized by the Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA).

The game was initially set for 6 p.m. at Kia Center. However, team officials have assured fans that tickets dated for December 28 will remain valid for the rescheduled game. Although a new date has yet to be confirmed, ticket holders have the option to exchange their tickets for any upcoming game.

This postponement follows the Eastern Coast Hockey League’s (ECHL) decision on Friday to delay 13 games due to the strike. This work stoppage impacts the league, which serves as a developmental platform two levels below the NHL.

In response to the ongoing negotiations over the collective bargaining agreement, the ECHL issued a statement on Friday. The league detailed its latest offer to the PHPA, which includes a proposed 19.8% increase to the current salary cap, among other provisions.

“On December 25, 2025, the ECHL made its last, best, and final offer to the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA). The ECHL made clear to union leadership that this was the best offer and that any future offers likely will need to account for losses in revenue attributable to missed games from a player strike. While we did not receive a formal response, we have heard from certain players that they will not be reporting for their scheduled games. We strongly encouraged union leadership to submit our offer to a vote of its membership, but we do not believe that happened.

This deal rewards players and ensures the sustainability of our teams and league so that it can continue to offer an entertaining and financially accessible product to our fans, and provide our incredible players with as many opportunities to play and compete.”

In addition, the ECHL released information they said was in their last offer to the PHPA that includes a 19.8% increase to the salary cap for this season and other items that can be found here.

Meanwhile, the PHPA said several issues still remain unresolved including guaranteed contracts, a holiday break and more that can be found in their statement here.

The PHPA said in part that, “this proposal failed to meaningfully address key health, safety, and economic issues and misrepresented the impact of the proposed financial changes.”

The ECHL has 30 teams, 29 of which are in the U.S. and one in Canada in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
