SAVANNAH, Ga () – After a brief hiatus due to a players’ strike, hockey is set to return to Enmarket Arena as the Ghost Pirates and the ECHL are poised to resume play. This follows the announcement of a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining arrangement.
The ECHL made the announcement on their website Saturday evening, confirming that the agreement was reached between the league and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA).
Players are expected to rejoin their teams and prepare for upcoming games, as the agreement awaits ratification and final approval.
The strike, initiated earlier this week, resulted in the cancellation of the Ghost Pirates’ scheduled games on December 26 and 27.
Earlier, the Professional Hockey Players’ Association declared “job action,” pointing to unresolved issues such as back-to-back game travel, holiday breaks, guaranteed contracts, offseason health benefits, and player compensation as key points in their negotiations for a new contract.
The ECHL says more details on the tentative agreement will be announced soon.
