A tragic incident unfolded in a rural Pennsylvania town on Friday, where a mother lost her life, her husband was wounded, and their son became the focus of an extensive manhunt that concluded in neighboring West Virginia.
The Pennsylvania State Police responded to a call concerning gunfire at a residence on Garrison Ridge Road in New Freeport just before 2:00 p.m., as reported by CBS News.
Upon arrival, officers found a couple outside their home, both suffering from gunshot injuries. Inside the house, their younger children were unharmed, but their eldest child, 18-year-old Jared Noll, who is suspected of being the shooter, had already fled the scene.
The injured couple was quickly transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, the mother did not survive her injuries and was declared dead at the hospital, while the father received medical care and has since been discharged.
Both victims were rushed to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. The mother succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The father has since been released after medical treatment.
The unharmed children have been placed in the care of a family member, according to WDTV.
Following the incident, Noll fled the property on foot, disappearing into the dense forest surrounding Garrison Ridge Road, according to CBS News.
Thick woods and poor cellular service in the New Freeport area hampered communication between search teams throughout Friday night and Saturday.
“We used tracking dogs, we used helicopters, and we used police on foot searching rough terrain,” Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Richard Sizer
As the search continued, authorities warned the public that the suspect is considered a significant danger, as he is wanted for homicide and is believed to be still armed with a firearm.
“Obviously, when you have someone on the run with a homicide warrant, on the run with a gun, it is a huge danger to the community.”
Police apprehended Noll and took him into custody after a tip led to someone matching his description on foot, just across the Pennsylvania state line in West Virginia, late Saturday afternoon.
According to the police, Noll was armed at the time of his arrest.
Noll will be extradited to Pennsylvania and faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide.
