SAVANNAH, Ga. — Sunday brought mostly cloudy skies to Savannah, but temperatures remained notably warm, reaching the upper 70s. The warmth will persist for one more day on Monday before a robust cold front makes its way through the area in the afternoon.

Sunday night will continue to be mild, with temperatures only dipping to the upper 50s and lower 60s overnight.

By Monday morning, expect temperatures to climb swiftly, reaching the upper 60s to lower 70s by midday as the cold front approaches.

As the front begins its passage, a few showers may develop during the morning, potentially lingering into the early afternoon. Additionally, anticipate strong, gusty winds accompanying the cold front’s arrival.

Winds from the West and northwest are predicted to maintain speeds of 10-20 mph, with gusts occasionally exceeding 25 mph as the front sweeps through the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry in the afternoon.

Colder air will begin to filter into the region throughout the evening. It is possible that temperatures before midnight will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Low temperatures by Tuesday morning will be at or below freezing. Inland locations have the best chance of experience low temperatures in the upper 20s.

A strong breeze will make conditions feel even colder with windchills in the teens and lower 20s Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will remain chilly throughout the afternoon, even with a sunny sky. Conditions once the sun sets Tuesday evening will quickly drop.

Low temperatures Wednesday morning likely getting as cold as the mid and upper 20s for many inland communities. High temperatures will only rise into the lower to middle 50s in the afternoon.

A heavy coat will be needed if you have plans out on the town for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Temperatures at night will cool again into the upper 20s to lower 30s overnight into New Year’s Day.

Conditions will gradually become milder for Friday and into the weekend as the return flow from the Gulf sets up again. Temperatures will return to normal with highs topping out in the lower 60s Friday through Sunday.

A system is forecast to move through on Saturday, and it will likely bring scattered rain with it. However, some showers may begin as early as Friday evening.

A few showers will linger into early Sunday. The second half of the weekend will remain mild with highs in the lower 60s Sunday afternoon.
