In McKinney, Texas, a tragic incident unfolded when a former city manager and his wife were discovered shot dead in their home on Sunday. Their 34-year-old son was subsequently shot by police after they found him inside the house armed with a handgun.
Officers from McKinney visited the residence of Leonard and Jackie Ragan, aged 73 and 72 respectively, after family members expressed concern over not having heard from the couple for several days.
Upon entering the home, police discovered the couple deceased in the living room. During their search, they encountered Bryce Ragan in a bedroom holding a gun. In response, two officers discharged their weapons, hitting him multiple times.
Reports from WFAA indicate that Bryce Ragan ignored police commands to disarm.
Authorities stated, “Officers immediately provided lifesaving assistance until emergency medical services arrived.” Bryce Ragan was then transported by EMS to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
Police said the investigation into the shooting continues “and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Leonard Ragan served as McKinney’s city manager from 2008 to 2010.
“We have learned that former City Manager Frank Ragan and his wife were tragically found deceased in their home,” McKinney City Manager Paul Grimes said in a statement to KTVT. “Mr. Ragan served the McKinney community from March 2008 to June 2010. Our condolences and prayers are with the family. We are unable to comment further while this is an active investigation.”
Police said the two officers who fired on Bryce Ragan have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
They said that Ragan is the suspect in his parents death, but charges have not yet been filed.
