Three individuals have been formally charged following an odorous incident involving the dumping of around 200 kilograms of deceased shark heads at the office of Western Australia Fisheries Minister, Jackie Jarvis.

The accused are facing allegations of trespassing and littering after the discovery took place in Margaret River, located approximately 270 kilometers south of Perth.

Their purported actions are thought to be a silent protest against the State Government’s contentious decision to impose a fishing ban.

In early December, the minister introduced an 18-month prohibition on recreational fishing and an indefinite halt to commercial fishing of all demersal species, commonly referred to as groundfish.

The strict restrictions were announced in an effort to save under-threat species including the popular pink snapper, red emperor and dhufish.

"They're tough and people are upset but this is the right thing to do sustain the industry and to sustain recreational fisheries," WA Police Minister Reece Whitby said.

They're all due to appear in Bunbury Magistrates Court on January 22.
