New developments in the case of missing Texas A&M graduate Sydney Marquez have surfaced, as her parents reveal surveillance footage capturing the 24-year-old near a Houston hotel shortly before she disappeared.
Sydney Marquez was last spotted in the Chinatown neighborhood of southwest Houston on December 11, specifically around a shopping center in the 9100 block of Bellaire Boulevard. This sighting was part of her journey from El Paso to Houston, where she intended to meet a friend.
Her father, Raul Marquez, shared with News Nation that the security video places Sydney just 150 yards away from a hotel. He expressed concern over the fact that despite all signs pointing to her return, she never made it back to her room.
“Everything she had—her phone, iPad, class ring, and clothing—was left in the hotel,” Raul Marquez explained. “There is simply no explanation for why she didn’t come back.”
“Her phone’s there, her iPad’s there, her class ring is there, her clothing is there. There is just no explanation why she didn’t make it back to her hotel.”
Now, according to Raul, new security footage showed Sydney around 150 feet from a hotel he had been staying at.
“She was trying to get to our hotel. But for some reason or another, she kept going westbound on Harwin (Drive). That’s the last footage we have.”
Family members said Sydney suffers from mental health issues had been off her medication when she walked away. Police said her car was later found on the city’s southwest side, near the Chinatown district.
Raul Marquez said she had been in a diverse area of town and people may be afraid of coming forward, due to their immigration status.
“If you see my daughter, if she’s endangered. Please don’t stay quiet,” he said. “If you see something, if you know something, please say something. I miss my daughter. She needs to come home.”
Sydney recently graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in neuroscience. She’s described as standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing around 120 pounds. She has short reddish, brown hair, wears glasses and has a four-leaf clover tattoo on her left wrist.
