Just days before Christmas, law enforcement in Marion County, Florida, successfully apprehended a man with multiple felony warrants who was clocked speeding down the highway. This was announced by the sheriff’s office shortly after the dramatic capture.
The chase culminated on December 20, when deputies received information about the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Arnaldo Benitez, being spotted near the intersection of Highway 441 and Highway 326. The public release from the sheriff’s office detailed the charges against Benitez, which include armed robbery, aggravated assault, and felony battery.
Benitez, known for his violent past, reportedly held victims at gunpoint during previous robberies. He is also implicated in another armed robbery incident where he allegedly fired multiple rifle rounds, injuring a victim, the release stated.
While deputies were conducting surveillance, they noticed Benitez and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, instead of complying, he sped away, reaching alarming speeds exceeding 100 mph. The high-speed pursuit was intense, but law enforcement was determined to prevent further danger.
The chase ended thanks to a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, which effectively brought Benitez’s vehicle to a stop. Following this, deputies were able to safely take him into custody, marking the end of a tense situation and the removal of a dangerous individual from the roads.

Meanwhile, investigators said they found two firearms (one of which was stolen) and methamphetamine in Benitez’s vehicle, “all within easy reach of the driver.” This was despite the fact that Benitez is a convicted felon and was legally prohibited from owning guns.
In addition to his outstanding warrants, Benitez now faces charges of aggravated fleeing, firearm possession by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, and driving with a suspended/revoked license.
“Outstanding teamwork by all involved in removing this violent offender from our streets and safely getting him into jail where he belongs,” the release concludes.
