2025's Top Anime Movie Unveiled by World's Largest Anime Database

Within the anime community, MyAnimeList stands out as the world’s leading global anime database, where countless enthusiasts share ratings and reviews of their cherished series and films. This year, the film earning the top rating from users is MAPPA’s Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc, the latest cinematic chapter in the popular Chainsaw Man series.

Currently, Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc boasts an impressive 9.13 out of 10-star rating on MyAnimeList. The storyline picks up right after the conclusion of Chainsaw Man Season 1, following the Public Safety Division’s encounter with Reze. This enigmatic girl, linked to the devil world, develops a distinctive connection with the main character, Denji.

The film’s plot is derived from the “Bomb Girl” arc in Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original Chainsaw Man manga. Following closely behind in MyAnimeList’s rankings is Gintama: The Final (2021), which holds a 9.05 rating. Completing the top five are A Silent Voice (2016), Gintama Movie 2: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya, and Violet Evergarden: The Movie.

The narrative is adapted from the “Bomb Girl” arc of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original Chainsaw Man manga. MyAnimeList’s second-highest-rated anime film is Gintama: The Final (2021), which currently boasts a 9.05 rating. The third, fourth and fifth place spots are held by A Silent Voice (2016), Gintama Movie 2: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya and Violet Evergarden: The Movie, respectively.

Demon Slayer’s Box Office Victory Doesn’t Win Against Chainsaw Man’s Top Rating

Chainsaw Man‘s victory is particularly significant when accounting for the competition it was up against this year. In July 2025, two months before Reze Arc debuted in Japan, Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle premiered to overwhelming financial success. As of November 2025, it has grossed over US$795M worldwide, surpassing its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Infinity Train to become Japan’s highest-grossing film of the year. Since its release, Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc has earned an estimated US$158-181M at the global box office.

While Reze Arc has not managed to significantly close the profit gap between itself and Demon Slayer, it has clearly made an indelible emotional impact on audiences. Much of the critical praise revolves around Reze and Denji’s relationship, which subverts traditional anime romance tropes to tell a genuinely heartbreaking love story. In addition to its generous MyAnimeList score, Reze Arc also boasts a 96% “Tomatometer” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” from Cinemascore.

Chainsaw Man‘s overwhelmingly positive reception has also placed it on the Academy’s radar; earlier this year, Reze Arc was officially deemed eligible for the Best Animated Feature award at the 2026 Oscars. This, along with the nomination of other anime films such as Infinity Castle and 100 Meters, indicates a notable shift in the Academy’s nomination process, which has become more inclusive towards anime works that are part of larger franchises. Reportedly, Reze Arc has also been nominated for the 2026 Golden Globe Award for “Best Animated Motion Picture.”

The Chainsaw Man anime franchise is far from over. At Jump Festa 2026, MAPPA announced that Chainsaw Man‘s “International Assassins” arc had been greenlit for production. While MAPPA did not reveal a projected release window for the anime, it did provide fans with a key visual and a brief teaser, sparking excitement for the upcoming work.
