The remains discovered in a Texas field have been identified as those of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who had been reported missing since Christmas Eve, officials announced on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, authorities located the young woman’s body around 100 yards from her residence during a search of the area.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the medical examiner concluded Olmos died from a gunshot wound to the head, classifying her death as a suicide.

Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that a gun was found at the scene. He mentioned that a relative of Olmos had reported a firearm missing, though it remains unclear if the gun found was the same weapon.

Salazar noted that investigators were considering the possibility of self-harm in her disappearance, citing “indicators of suicidal ideation” and signs of undiagnosed depression.

“From what’s being described to us, it sounds like it was a young person going through a very tough time in their life,” he said.

Mendoza Olmos grew up in Southern California and still has close family ties. She was born in Ontario and went to elementary school there.

Dashboard camera video released this week may show Mendoza Olmos right when she went missing. Investigators believe footage shows the college student walking near her home the morning she disappeared.

Mendoza Olmos was seen on surveillance video rummaging through her car Christmas Eve morning, then walking out of sight.

Her family said she left without her phone.
