Since the introduction of TL Norris, portrayed by Sam Elliott, in the series Landman, viewers have been treated to a complex yet insightful father-son dynamic between him and his son, Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton. TL’s life as a seasoned wildcatter offers a wealth of experiential wisdom, affectionately dubbed “TL wisdom” by fans. One of the standout elements of Landman Season 2 is their shared moments in Tommy’s M-Tex-branded F-350 Super Duty. TL serves as a candid commentator, reflecting on the unfolding dramas in Tommy’s life, from business challenges in the oil industry to personal relationships, often advising him to rekindle his romance with Angela, played by Ali Larter. His comedic interactions, especially during meals, add a layer of enjoyment to his character.
Episode 7 of Landman Season 2 continues to showcase TL’s love for food. During a road trip from Fort Worth to the M-Tex bunkhouse in Midland, TL and Tommy make a pit stop for lunch in the town of Strawn, Texas, at the renowned Mary’s Cafe.
What is Mary’s Cafe in Landman? Is Mary’s Cafe A Real Life Location?
Mary’s Cafe has earned a reputation as a cherished roadside eatery, famous for its chicken-fried steaks in multiple sizes and generous servings of burgers. Even for the perpetually hurried Tommy, Mary’s accommodates with the option to “get it started” if you call ahead, as TL humorously notes.
And indeed, Mary’s Cafe is not just a fictional creation; it exists at 119 Grant Ave, Strawn, TX 76475, situated roughly 113 miles west of Dallas.
So What Does TL Eat At Mary’s Cafe in Landman?
While indulging in Texas-style cuisine, TL often teases Tommy with lines like, “I like to enjoy my food. Unlike you, who sucks it down like a catfish.” Whether it’s a T-bone, sirloin, flat iron, or ribeye steak, Mary’s Cafe serves it up with mashed potatoes, salad, toast, and gravy—exactly the hearty fare TL relishes. “Whatever time I got left,” TL tells Tommy, “I’m gonna enjoy this steak, that sweet tea.”
We’d be happy watching Tommy and TL driving around and eating lunch at every legendary spot in Texas, but Landman is also famous for Angela’s themed family dining events, so let’s not forget the pirate dinner and the big closer for Season 2 Episode 7, taco night at the Midland house. While Tommy continues to manage his personal dramas, TL reaches for the fresh corn tortillas. Whether he’s at Mary’s Cafe or the M-Tex bunk house, on Landman, TL Norris is always gonna enjoy his meal.
