WASHINGTON – In a New Year’s Eve announcement, President Donald Trump has decided to postpone the implementation of increased tariffs on certain imported goods, including upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities, for an additional year. This decision comes as trade negotiations continue.

On Wednesday, Trump signed an order maintaining the 25% tariff on these products, which was introduced in September. However, the escalation to a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture and a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets and vanities has been deferred.

These tariffs were originally scheduled to intensify on January 1. They form part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration to address trade imbalances and other economic issues through the imposition of tariffs on a wide array of imported goods.

The president has justified the tariffs on furniture by citing the need to “strengthen American industry and protect national security.”

This latest postponement adds to the ongoing saga of President Trump’s tariff policies. Since taking office, Trump has frequently announced tariffs with little warning, only to later delay or retract them, often causing uncertainty in international trade relations.
