JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — To kick off the new year, many residents in the Tri-Cities region embraced nature by participating in First Day Hikes.
In the early hours at Buffalo Mountain Park, eager hikers set off before 7 a.m., ascending to the stunning White Rock Overlook.
Participants expressed that beginning 2026 with a hike is a perfect way to set a positive tone for the year ahead.
“I thought, ‘why not?'” shared Erick Trejo, a sophomore at ETSU. “Starting the year outdoors with some exercise is fantastic. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people. Last year, I connected with some amazing folks, and I’m excited to do the same again. Plus, the sunrise is simply a beautiful way to start the year.”
Similar First Day Hikes took place at several other state parks in the area, including Warriors Path and David Crockett Birthplace.
