Anthony Head, known for his role in the hit series Ted Lasso, is mourning the loss of his partner Sarah Fisher, who passed away at the age of 61. A passionate advocate for animal rights, Sarah shared her life with the 71-year-old actor in their home near Bath.

In a heartfelt tribute, their daughters, Emily and Daisy, both of whom have followed in their father’s footsteps into acting, announced the news of their mother’s passing. Describing her as ‘extraordinary, kind, and talented,’ the sisters expressed the profound impact of her sudden departure.

Emily, aged 37, gained recognition with her role as Carli in The Inbetweeners, while 34-year-old Daisy has made her mark with performances in Guilt, Harlots, and The Syndicate.

The sisters poignantly noted, “It is immensely shocking to us all, and came with very little warning. No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left.”

‘We know how profoundly she has impacted the lives of so many, and we couldn’t be more proud of the legacy she is leaving behind. We only wish she’d had more time to share her knowledge and brilliance with us, and the world.

Their two daughters Emily and Daisy – who are both actresses – posted a tribute to their mum as they shared the sad news and called her ‘extraordinary, kind and talented’

‘Our grief knows no bounds, nor did the reaches of her incredibly unique and irreplaceable spirit.’

They did not reveal any further details about her death.

Emily had her breakout role as Carli D’Amato in E4’s sitcom The Inbetweeners, and later played Rebecca White in Emmerdale and Colette Andrews in BBC drama The Syndicate. 

Meanwhile Daisy played Grace in the American drama series Guilt, Amy Stevenson in BBC One’s drama The Syndicate and Kate Bottomley in the third season of Hulu series Harlots.

She has also starred as Genya Safin in the Netflix show Shadow and Bone and Sofina in the film Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Sarah had worked with the Battersea Cats and Dogs Home in London over the years – with them also paying tribute on Thursday.

They said in a statement: ‘We’re truly sorry to lose our beloved friend and Ambassador Sarah Fisher and send our deepest sympathies to Sarah’s partner Anthony, her daughters, and her family and friends.

‘Sarah, alongside her partner Anthony Head, gave so much to our charity, fostering dogs, using her canine behaviour expertise to train our staff and volunteers, and contributing in so many ways to make a real difference in animal welfare.

‘She will be dearly missed by all of us at Battersea.’ 

Anthony, who is primarily a performer in musical theatre, rose to fame in the UK in the 1980s following his role in the Gold Blend couple TV ads for Nescafé, which led to major roles in several television series.

He is best known for his roles as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003), the Prime Minister in Little Britain (2003–2006) and Uther Pendragon in Merlin (2008–2012).

More recently he played Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso (2020–2023), as well as voicing Herc Shipwright in BBC Radio 4’s Cabin Pressure. 

Sarah was also patron of Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary in Somerset for many years.

Their founder Pauline Leeson said in her statement after her death: ‘Sarah was an advocate for all animals and was always a voice for those dear souls who have no voice.

‘She will be a huge loss to the animal kingdom she worked so tirelessly for, helping so very many animals of all species to find their way to cope and be happy in this changing world.

‘We at Holly Hedge are so proud to have known Sarah. Her memory will live on in all the good work and positive change she has made to their lives.

‘Our hearts go out to Anthony, Emily, Daisy and family.’

Sarah was also fondly remembered by staff at the Forever Hounds Trust, which is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of greyhounds and lurchers.

Sarah ran Tilley Farm, a sanctuary for rescued horses, ponies and donkeys

They said: ‘Sarah was an instructor and a practitioner who helped so many dogs, including many of ours over the years. 

‘She gave her time and knowledge, not only to help the dogs in our care but also by sharing that knowledge with our volunteers.

‘In 2016 she very generously hosted our 20th Birthday Bash at Tilley Farm, making us feel incredibly welcome and supported. 

‘The animal world has lost a true advocate, deeply committed to animal welfare.’

Sarah ran Tilley Farm, a sanctuary for rescued horses, ponies and donkeys. 

She also ran Animal Centred Education, within Tilley Farm, which supported the needs of dogs and other animals. 

Anthony previously said that his relationship with Sarah helped him to stay ‘grounded’.

He said in 2006: ‘She tells me to ‘get over myself’ quite a lot.

‘There’s nothing better than coming home to her. I might come off set with my head up my a***, but as soon as I’m back with Sarah, I’m grounded again. 

‘I wouldn’t say she wears the trousers, but I probably ask for her advice more than she asks for mine.’
