In a shocking development from Arkansas, a woman faces charges of capital murder following the tragic death of an 8-month-old boy under her watch on Tuesday.
Erin Sauls, 23, operated a daycare within her Little Rock residence where young Elijah Flowerday was discovered unresponsive and later declared deceased. According to KATV, medical examinations revealed that Flowerday had suffered multiple brain bleeds and a skull fracture. Sauls reportedly admitted to causing these injuries by striking the child’s head against a hardwood floor three times.
Allegedly, Sauls confessed to harming the infant out of frustration due to a headache while she was in the process of changing his diaper.
The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that after the injury, Flowerday appeared overheated and clammy. Sauls reportedly attempted to calm him with a bottle, yet tragically found him unresponsive about 15 minutes later.
A medical professional informed authorities that they believe the severe injuries were inflicted shortly after Flowerday was dropped off at Sauls’ care. Furthermore, Flowerday’s mother confirmed that her son was in good health when she left him there.
Sauls, who is charged with capital murder, was ordered on Wednesday to remain jailed without bond. She is due back in court on January 13.
