Over the years, the anime industry has introduced its audience to a number of controversial sibling relationships. From the unsettling dynamics of No Game No Life‘s protagonists to the enigmatic Adlai siblings in Black Clover, many anime series have explored these complex familial bonds, drawing comparisons to the infamous Lannisters from Game of Thrones.

Among these contentious sibling pairs, few have sparked as much debate as Ui Ui and Mei Mei from Jujutsu Kaisen. With the release of the latest chapter in Gege Akutami’s sequel manga, JJK Modulo, this duo’s relationship has become even more entangled, possibly earning them the title of anime’s most controversial siblings.

In Chapter 15 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, titled “The Forbidden Technique Unleashed,” a dramatic duel is set to unfold between Dabura and Yuka Okkotsu. Amidst this tension, the chapter delivers one of the sequel’s most unexpected plot twists. While many fans anticipated the return of Yuji Itadori for the confrontation with Dabura, it was actually Ui Ui, Mei Mei’s younger brother, who emerged to engage with Dabura just before his clash with Yuka commenced.

JJK Modulo Hints That Ui Ui Has Taken Mei Mei’s Body as His Own

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 15 — titled “The Forbidden Technique Unleashed” — sets up the duel between Dabura and Yuka Okkotsu, and in the process, it features one of the most surprising returns in the sequel thus far. Whereas many JJK fans expected Yuji Itadori to make his debut in the battle against Dabura, it was instead Ui Ui, the younger brother of Mei Mei, who talks to Dabura shortly before he began his fight with Yuka.

Ui Ui was never a particularly uplifting figure in the original Jujutsu Kaisen, but he was also a child who had an adorable appearance. 68 years later, he now sports a ghastly look that is a far cry from his original aesthetic; however, the horror doesn’t stop there.

As part of Ui Ui’s new character design, the elderly sorcerer also wears the same front-facing braided hairstyle worn by his sister throughout the events of JJK. Normally, this would just be another instance of their strange bond, but it seems as though Gege Akutami may be hinting at an even more disgusting possibility than this.

When Ui Ui talks to Dabura, much of the sorcerer’s face is covered. The part that isn’t covered looks absolutely ancient, and although Ui Ui would likely be around 80 years old, it almost seems as though he’s older than he should be, given the way that JJK has depicted older characters up to this point.

There’s one potential reason for Ui Ui’s odd appearance that would immediately explain much of his current predicament: him swapping bodies with Mei Mei. Jujutsu Kaisen‘s final saga revealed that the young sorcerer could transfer souls between bodies as long as both participants were willing, and considering his sickeningly intimate bond with Mei Mei, it’s entirely possible that she would allow (or force) her brother to inherit her body.

If Ui Ui were to have swapped bodies with Mei Mei, then it would explain his advanced age, obscured face, and braided hairstyle, as well as solidify the duo as two of the most controversial siblings in anime history. In fact, their taboo bond might even rival the most hated twins in TV history, Jaime and Cersei Lannister.

Ui Ui and Mei Mei Give Game of Thrones’ Lannister Twins a Run for Their Money

Few TV characters — let alone romantically involved siblings — are as despised as Game of Thrones‘ Jaime and Cersei Lannister. The pair are the longest recurring villains in the incredibly popular franchise, and even though Jaime does a lot of work to repair his reputation by the end of GoT, he and the Queen Regent will always be despised for their roles in the deaths of numerous beloved characters.

However, despite their murderous actions, Jaime and Cersei are best remembered for their incestuous relationship and its effect on the Seven Kingdoms. The pair is caught in the act at the end of Game of Thrones‘ first episode, and as is revealed later in the story, their affair is the actual source of Cersei’s three children. Overall, their bond is an awful, toxic connection that ultimately sees them perish together, yet somehow, even it may pale in comparison to Ui Ui and Mei Mei’s relationship.

In terms of who is more evil, the Lannister twins are far more vindictive and violent than JJK‘s twisted siblings. That said, Jaime and Cersei are, for all their faults, still faultingly individualistic. Jaime is legitimately one of the realm’s finest swordsmen, whereas Cersei rules with an iron fist as succession disputes arise in the wake of King Robert’s death. On the other hand, Ui Ui and Mei Mei (and especially the former) seem as though their entire identities revolve around one another.

If Ui Ui did take control of Mei Mei’s body, it would represent an incredibly intimate and horrifically strange way of connecting with his sister. Worse still, there are three children present during Ui Ui’s conversation with Dabura, and since they all look suspiciously like Ui Ui and Mei Mei, it’s also possible that the duo consummated their bond in the same way as the Lannisters.

Either way, the last few chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo have been absolute nightmare fuel for its fans. Gege Akutami is fully leaning into the horror tropes that popped up sporadically in the original JJK, and the unsettling appearance of Ui Ui only added to this atmosphere. Even if the sorcerer doesn’t end up adding much to Modulo‘s story, it’s great to see Akutami using minor characters like Ui Ui to such great effect in JJK‘s sequel.
