New revelations have surfaced regarding a troubling case involving a 21-year-old University of Kentucky student and cheerleader accused of concealing her newborn in her apartment closet.

Laken Snelling’s case is proceeding to a grand jury, which is scheduled to review the evidence toward the end of January. This jury is anticipated to deliberate on indicting Snelling on three charges to which she has already entered not guilty pleas. Depending on the forthcoming autopsy results, additional charges of murder or manslaughter may also be considered.

Snelling was taken into custody after the tragic discovery of her infant’s body inside a trash bag in her closet. The autopsy, however, has left authorities with more questions than answers due to its inconclusive nature. This development follows Snelling’s social media posts displaying her pregnancy before the infant’s death came to light.

Investigators claim that Snelling secretly gave birth, subsequently wrapping the newborn in a towel, placing him in a trash bag, and concealing him in her closet.

The Lexington police responded to a call about an unresponsive infant at a residence on Park Avenue on a recent Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a baby, wrapped in a towel and placed inside a black trash bag within the closet.

The UK cheerleader is now charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.

Court records show Snelling took selfies during the birth.
