Effingham Firefighters Heroically Rescue Rooftop Contractor in Medical Crisis

In Effingham, Illinois, a contractor experienced a medical emergency while working on the roof of a Kohl’s store on Friday afternoon, according to the local fire department. The incident occurred at the store located at 1600 Ford Avenue.

Effingham Fire Chief Brant Yochum reported that the emergency services were called to the scene to assist the worker, who was part of a contracted team engaged in roofing tasks at the time of the incident.

Upon arriving, the Effingham Fire Department utilized their platform ladder truck to reach the rooftop safely. The firefighters then carefully removed the contractor from the rooftop and brought him down to ground level.

Once safely on the ground, the contractor was handed over to the care of Rural Med EMS personnel. He was then transported to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for further medical evaluation and necessary treatment.

This incident remains under review by the “appropriate parties,” Chief Yochum said. At the time, no further information on the patient’s condition is available.

“The Effingham Fire Department would like to remind the public that incidents involving work at height can present unique hazards and appreciates the cooperation of all responding agencies,” Chief Yochum said.
