JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An officer with nearly three decades of service in the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has been placed in a new role following his arrest on a DUI charge in St. Johns County.
Raymond Goethe, who serves as a patrol officer, was taken into custody by a St. Johns County deputy late Friday night. Authorities allege he was driving under the influence, according to a statement from JSO.
The incident occurred as the deputy was heading north on U.S. 1 and decided to pull over Goethe’s vehicle. The reasons for the traffic stop have not been publicly disclosed. Following a roadside assessment, Goethe was arrested for DUI and transported to the St. Johns County jail.
The deputy was driving northbound on U.S. 1 when he conducted the traffic stop on Goethe, JSO said. It was not immediately disclosed what prompted the stop. After a roadside interview, Goethe was arrested for DUI and taken to the St. Johns County jail.
Goethe was not on duty at the time and was in his own vehicle, according to JSO. He has since been administratively reassigned to a different position as a criminal investigation is conducted.
This is the first arrest of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office employee in 2026.
