A man allegedly aimed a “long gun” at law enforcement officers, prompting them to shoot, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Monday night, deputies from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reportedly discharged their weapons after a man pointed a firearm at them.

The incident unfolded around 8:45 p.m., when the department was called to a Creeks Ridge Road neighborhood in Arlington following a gunshot report.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered an individual in the garage of a residence holding what they termed a “long gun.” They instructed him to lay down the weapon and exit the premises, which he did, allowing them to take him into custody.

Shortly thereafter, the man’s father, identified as 68-year-old Offero Manalon, emerged from the house into the garage. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he picked up the firearm and directed it at the officers.

According to JSO, the three responding officers opened fire on Manalon, who went back inside the home. SWAT was called in shortly after, where eventually gas was injected into the home, and Manalon came out. The standoff lasted about three hours, JSO states.

Manalon was transported to a local hospital, where his current condition is unknown. No deputies were reported to have suffered from any injuries.

At the time of publishing, no deaths have been reported.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in 2026, with the first in Durbin Park being reported only minutes beforehand.
