‘WWHL’: Andy Cohen Escalates Beef With Eric Adams After Former NYC Mayor Told Him To Join Alcoholics Anonymous

Andy Cohen has responded to former New York City Mayor Eric Adams after Adams suggested he should consider joining Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) following Cohen’s recent political outburst.

The first episode of Watch What Happens Live for 2026 aired on Monday night, January 5, marking its return from a holiday break. During the broadcast, Cohen addressed his earlier criticism of Adams, labeling the ex-mayor’s term as both “chaotic” and “horrible” during CNN’s New Year’s Eve special. Cohen did not mince words, saying, “Eric Adams’ first move as a private citizen was to roast me on Twitter. I ask, Eric, where’s the lie?”

Last week, while co-hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve program with Anderson Cooper, Cohen launched into a spirited rant against Adams. This came as Adams’ tenure as mayor concluded, with Zohran Mamdani taking over the role.

In his critique, Cohen described Adams’ time in office as chaotic and difficult. He also took the opportunity to mention the former mayor’s recently dropped federal corruption charges, quipping, “I just want to say, he’s got his pardons; he’s pardoned. Great, you got your pardons, go off into the sunset. We’ll manage with what you left behind.”

After describing Adams’ time in office as “chaotic” and “horrible,” Cohen took a swipe at the politician’s recently dismissed federal corruption charges. “I just want to say, I mean, he’s got his pardons, he’s pardoned,” Cohen said. “Great, you got your pardons, go off in the sunset. We’ll fiddle with what we have, with what you left us with.”

“You pardoned your way through four years, and all the clubs, we’ll see you there,” he continued. “Goodbye, Mayor Adams. You did it, you did it, you did it, didn’t you?”

The next day, Adams took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to slam Cohen’s latest political outburst—which came three years after he lambasted then-Mayor Bill de Blasio on CNN’s NYE broadcast, resulting in the network’s one-year ban on drinking alcohol on the air.

“My response to @Andy: AA,” Adams wrote. “Another sloppy drunken rant. If anyone actually cares about him, they’ll tell him to get help. New Yorkers aren’t laughing with him. They are concerned about him. Public intoxication is a disease. He should seek help. He was safe in Times Square because we did our job. Again.”

Adams added, “Seek help. AAA: Andy’s Alcohol Anonymous.”

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
