A disability support worker faces charges linked to a deadly house fire in Sydney that occurred nearly five years ago.

The fire erupted on April 13, 2021, at a disability group home located on River Avenue in Carramar, situated in the southwestern part of the city.

Emergency responders managed to rescue two male residents from the flames. However, one of the men, aged 38, was found unresponsive. Despite the efforts of paramedics and firefighters who urgently attended to him on the scene, he could not be revived.

In response to the incident, authorities launched Strike Force Andretta to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.

Police later set up Strike Force Andretta to investigate the blaze.

Following inquiries, about 8.50am yesterday detectives arrested a 27-year-old man and charged him with manslaughter.

Police will allege in court that the man was negligent in his role as a carer, leaving the residents unsupervised.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in court today.
