In a chilling turn of events at a New Year’s celebration in Minnesota, a young man is now in custody following a fatal incident involving a firearm. The tragic outcome unfolded when he allegedly pointed a gun under another guest’s neck and asked, “Do you trust me?” before the weapon discharged, resulting in the man’s death, according to police reports.

The Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting just before 1 a.m. on Thursday in the 1700 block of Highway 77 in Wolverton, a town near the North Dakota border in western Minnesota. Authorities discovered 22-year-old Jorden Boehm suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. Despite efforts by paramedics, Boehm was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports from a probable cause affidavit indicate that the gathering was hosted by 26-year-old Myron Johanson and attended by approximately ten individuals.

Witnesses recounted that the party was initially enjoyable, but tension mounted as Johanson was reportedly seen handling a firearm throughout the evening. He allegedly engaged in reckless behavior with the gun, even pointing it at other partygoers. One individual described an unnerving encounter where Johanson removed the magazine, aimed the gun at his head, and asked, “Do you trust me?” The witness firmly declined, saying, “F— no, I don’t,” and pushed the gun away, as detailed in the affidavit.

The situation escalated when Johanson reportedly reloaded the gun, chambered a round, and approached Boehm, posing the same ominous question. Tragically, the gun fired, striking Boehm in the neck. A witness reported hearing Johanson exclaim, “Oh s—, call 911,” in the aftermath of the shooting.

Following his arrest and after being informed of his rights, Johanson allegedly confessed to the accidental shooting. In the moments after the incident, he reportedly secured the gun and placed it in his bedroom before contacting emergency services.

Deputies placed Johanson under arrest on charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He was taken to the Wilkin County Jail where he remains without bond.

Boehm’s mother Michelle Sanger told local NBC affiliate KVLY that her son was a good person.

“He was a very happy kid, very happy kid. I mean, he struggled, I guess once in a while, but he was a very happy kid. He was always there to help anybody and everybody who needed it,” she said.
