The New York Giants are turning to local talent as they search for their next head coach.

Raheem Morris, recently dismissed by the Atlanta Falcons despite ending the season on a four-game winning streak, is slated for an interview with the Giants next week, according to a report from ESPN. In addition to the Giants, the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals are also reportedly interested in speaking with Morris about their head coaching positions.

Morris, 49, hails from New Jersey, having graduated from Irvington High School, and boasts a Super Bowl victory as defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams from 2021 to 2023. He is now pursuing his third opportunity as a head coach in the NFL.

Morris first became one of the league’s youngest head coaches when he took over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009, compiling a 17-31 record over three seasons. He later served as interim head coach for the Falcons, achieving a 4-7 record in 2020, which led to his promotion as head coach for two full seasons, amassing a 16-18 record.

Despite tying for first place in the NFC South with an 8-9 finish this season, the Falcons decided to part ways with Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. Their decision was influenced by controversial moves at the quarterback position, including signing Kirk Cousins to a hefty four-year, $180 million deal, followed by drafting Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick just six weeks later.

Morris and Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph are the first two external minorities to be scheduled for interviews by the Giants. In-house interim head coach Mike Kafka (Puerto Rican descent) and former Giants great Antonio Pierce also are expected to be on the short list.

Morris won’t be the only local flavor up for the job.

Staten Island native Lou Anarumo (Colts defensive coordinator) was requested for an interview, and New Jersey’s Jeff Hafley (Packers defensive coordinator) is thought to be held in high regard inside the organization.
