The world has lost another member of the Swayze family. Sean Swayze, the younger brother of the late Patrick Swayze, has passed away.
Sean’s son, Jesse Swayze, confirmed to TMZ that his father died on December 15 in Los Angeles at the age of 63.
A death certificate accessed by the publication reveals that Sean succumbed to an acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis, conditions exacerbated by cirrhosis of the liver due to alcoholism.
In a heartfelt tribute, Sean’s cousin, Rachel Leon, took to Instagram to express her sorrow, admitting she is “heartbroken” by his passing.
Sean’s cousin Rachel Leon shared a tribute to him on Instagram, writing that she was “heartbroken” over his death.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his brother Don Swayze and his children, Cassie Swayze, Kyle Swayze and Jesse Swayze,” she wrote. “We are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time.”
“Please know that we love you and are always here for you,” she continued. “Sean, I love you so much, and we will miss you dearly.”
Patrick and Sean had three other siblings — brother Don and sisters Vicki and Bambi, who are still living.
Patrick died in September 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was 57 years old.
During an interview with Barbara Walters that aired in January 2009, the “Dirty Dancing” star said he first noticed symptoms of his cancer while celebrating New Year’s Eve in 2008.
“I tried to have champagne … and it would be like pouring acid, you know, on an open wound, and then my indigestion issues got gigantic and constant,” he recalled. “And then I started thinkin’, ‘I’m gettin’ skinny.’”
“When you see it in the mirror, when all of a sudden … pull your eyes down and … the bottom of your eyes go yellow and jaundice sets in — then you know somethin’s wrong,” he continued. “I started doing a little research … and started realizing this is not pretty. This is not a good thing.”
