BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities in Brevard County have apprehended a man following an alleged sexual assault reported by a woman earlier this week, as detailed by the Sheriff’s Office.
According to an official statement, the incident occurred on Monday when deputies were alerted to a distress call. A woman had been frantically knocking on a neighbor’s door, pleading for assistance.
The victim recounted to deputies that she had been in the process of relocating from her apartment when she noticed a man loitering in the vicinity over several days. On the day of the assault, the man reportedly forced his way into her home, brandishing a knife, and sexually assaulted her.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene, taking the victim’s phone and car keys, the deputies reported.
Despite the ordeal, the woman was able to provide a detailed description of the assailant. Surveillance footage from the area later helped identify the suspect as Kelvin Johnson, according to the release.
On Wednesday, the BCSO’s GAMEOVER Task Force was able to catch Johnson, and he was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office announced.
“There’s absolutely nothing anyone can say in this situation to make sense of why anyone would do something this evil and vile!” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey said. “My heart breaks for this victim, and we will do everything we can to help her through this time while keeping her perpetrator locked up so he can never victimize anyone else!”
Johnson now faces charges of sexual battery, home invasion robbery, aggravated assault, and violation of probation.
