Among the fortunate winners of last night’s division one draw were a pair of great-grandparents.
When Francis and Nick heard the winning numbers, they were in utter disbelief.
“He just called out for me to verify it,” Francis recounted. “You must be joking, this can’t be real.”
With 9News capturing the moment, the couple from Burpengary made their way to the newsagency following a public appeal from The Lott for the elusive winners to step forward.
“It’s truly extraordinary; you can sense their excitement and apprehension,” remarked Prakash Valia, the owner of Burpengary Central News.
“I had to turn the fan on for her.”
The couple had only played the Weekday Windfall game once before purchasing last night’s million-dollar ticket.
Francis bought the ticket after making a small fortune on her very first entry.
“I got fourteen bucks, didn’t I? $14 on it,” Francis told 9News.
“I said ‘oh, I’ll just have another one’.”
Andrea Rutledge sold Francis the winning ticket on Tuesday and was thrilled to have helped the couple.
“It’s good to know that someone’s going to change their life,” Andrea said.
The great-grandparents now plan to tick off a bucket list trip to Morocco.
