Netflix fans threaten to boycott over shows not returning in 2026

Netflix subscribers are expressing their disappointment as it seems several beloved series won’t be making a return in 2026.

Among the shows absent from Netflix’s January 7 announcement of upcoming releases were the fan favorites Wednesday and Ginny & Georgia.

Wednesday’s second season captivated viewers in August 2025, and fans were eager to see Jenna Ortega and the Addams family grace their screens once more.

Likewise, Ginny & Georgia, whose third season premiered in June, has left audiences anticipating more from stars Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, especially after the show’s renewal for a third and fourth season in 2023.

Newer series like Ransom Canyon, which debuted last April, along with Untamed and Forever, were also notably absent from the announcement.

Netflix stated that its 2026 slate is not comprehensive to all titles launching this year and that select title announcements will come later.

However, frustrated fans were disheartened by the lack of update on the two shows and complained on social media.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one said: ‘So sick of the insane wait time for new seasons.’

‘Netflix is sticking with the two-year gap between seasons… Let’s see how this works out for them,’ added another.

‘Ginny & Georgia only in 2027 then?’ asked a third as they then referenced one of the character’s who is meant to be nine years old. ‘At this rate, Austin will be 30 years old when the series ends.’

‘Not sure what about Ginny & Georgia takes so long to shoot and release,’ added a fourth.

‘Jenna Ortega’s gonna be like 30 when this show finally ends lol,’ another said of Wednesday.

In response to the slate, one wrote, in part: ‘I really should cancel my Netflix.’

Despite missing popular titles, Netflix has confirmed the return of other huge titles.

Bridgerton will be returning for its fourth season with part one set to launch on January 29 with part two dropping on February 26.

This time around, the drama turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict (played by Luke Thompson).

‘Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball,’ the synopsis teases.

Virgin River season seven will arrive on March 12 and delves back into nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) move to the remote California town of Virgin River.

The hotly anticipated second season of Beef will premiere on April 16, meanwhile, June 11 will mark the return of Sweet Magnolias for season five.

While a date has not yet been announced, Avatar: The Last Airbender season two will launch in 2026.

‘After a bittersweet victory saving the Northern Water Tribe from the invading Fire Nation, Avatar Aang, Katara and Sokka regroup and set off on a mission to convince the elusive Earth King to aid in their battle against fearsome Fire Lord Ozai,’ says the logline.

Over on film, Enola Holmes 3 is slated for release in the summer.

‘Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before,’ the official synopsis said.
