WASHINGTON – On Thursday, NASA revealed that it might need to cut short the Crew-11 mission due to a medical issue involving one of the astronauts aboard the space station.

The affected crew member is currently in stable condition, according to NASA’s official blog update.

“Our foremost priority is the safety of our missions,” the statement emphasized. “We are thoroughly exploring all possible actions, including an early conclusion to the Crew-11 mission. These are precisely the scenarios for which NASA and our partners rigorously train to ensure safe execution. Additional updates will be provided within the next 24 hours.”

The identity of the astronaut facing the medical issue has not been disclosed.

NASA initially addressed the medical situation on Wednesday, noting that an upcoming spacewalk scheduled for Thursday would be delayed. At that time, the crew member was also reported to be stable.

Crew-11 launched in August from the Florida coast, sending NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov to the space station.
