Jennifer Lawrence recently shared a heartfelt decision she made to rehome one of her cherished dogs after an unfortunate incident involving her young son.

The 35-year-old Academy Award-winning actress disclosed this personal story during a screening of her latest film, “Die My Love,” in New York City on Wednesday night, shortly after her stunning appearance on the red carpet.

Lawrence explained that becoming a mother to her children, Cy, who is three, and another baby born in 2024 with her husband, Cooke Maroney, significantly shifted her perspective on pet ownership. This change led to her difficult choice to part ways with her chihuahua, Princess Pippi Longstocking.

During a Q&A session, captured on video by TV producer John Pascarella, Lawrence was asked whether she preferred dogs or cats.

While discussing her pets, she candidly revealed, “One of them bit my son, and that made me want to obliterate every dog ever.”

When Lawrence was first asked the question at 92nd Street Y, she squirmed a bit as the audience could be heard reacting with audible sadness, seemingly assuming her precious pooch had passed away. But the actress assured them that the dog is alive and with her parents.

Of Princess Pippi Longstocking, she said: ‘She did not like New York. I lived on 1st and 67th just to be near the park for her. After I had a kid, dogs became so scary.

‘My son’s going up to it and it’s almost like I don’t recognize dogs right now. I just see them as a threat.’

She famously adopted the pet in 2017 but her entire life shifted after becoming a mother in 2022.

Lawrence said: ‘Anyway, after I had a kid, our dogs became so scary, you know?

‘It’s almost, like, I don’t recognize dogs right now. I just see them as a threat.’

The Silver Linings Playbook star went on to say that she does adore her cat Fred and has love for felines in general despite their sassiness.

She explained: ‘I have a cat and I feel like they’re so misunderstood.

‘They are a**holes and people who don’t like that about cats are getting that that is what is so funny.’

Lawrence married art director Maroney in 2019.

The dark psychological drama has received stellar reviews from critics, particularly for Jennifer’s bravura lead performance, yet she was shockingly snubbed when her name went unmentioned when nominations for the SAG Awards — renamed the Actor Awards — were announced earlier on Wednesday.

She stars in Die My Love as a woman with a tempestuous relationship with her possibly unfaithful husband (Pattinson).

After the birth of their first child, she is engulfed by severe postpartum depression and bouts of psychosis, while her husband and mother-in-law (Spacek) are seemingly powerless to help her.
