A chaotic scene unfolded at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital on Thursday evening when police shot a man wielding a sharp object, leading to a temporary lockdown of the medical facility. Witnesses and sources described the harrowing incident.

The police were called to the hospital around 5:40 p.m. following reports of a man who had barricaded himself in a room with an elderly patient. The man was reportedly using a sharp object to harm himself, causing blood to splatter throughout the room, sources said.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to subdue the man using tasers, but the effort proved ineffective, according to those present.

As the situation escalated, two officers resorted to using their firearms, shooting the man, according to sources familiar with the incident.

The injured man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was left in critical condition and continues to receive treatment at the very hospital where the altercation took place, sources reported.

The four officers are also being treated for tinnitus.

Helicopters and emergency vehicles were spotted swarming the hospital in Park Slope in the aftermath of the shooting.

The emergency room is currently on lockdown, and family members of patients have been told to leave, one woman, whose son is in the emergency room at Methodist, told The Post.
