Warning: Spoilers ahead for “Chicago Med” Season 11, Episode 8 — “Triple Threat”

Dr. Caitlin Lenox (played by Sarah Ramos) had an uncertain fate following the fall finale of “Chicago Med.” However, in Season 11’s Episode 8, titled “Triple Threat,” she emerges from the ordeal only to find herself facing fresh dilemmas. In the previous episode, “Double Down,” Lenox was on a mission to find a patient whose husband had been abusive. Devin Carter (portrayed by Jack Falahee) had arrived at the hospital after a drunken brawl, claiming his wife was away, but Lenox suspected otherwise. Her instincts led her to Faye (Olivia Nikkanen), whom she discovered injured at the bottom of a staircase, harmed by Devin. As Lenox attempted to call for assistance, she was knocked out, leaving viewers in suspense.

As “Triple Threat” begins, Devin is holding both Lenox and Dr. Mitch Ripley (played by Luke Mitchell) hostage. Ripley had been aware of Lenox’s intentions and had followed her to the Carters’ home. Despite their precarious situation, the duo manages to tend to Faye’s injuries. They eventually outsmart Devin, but as Lenox tries to secure help, Devin regains consciousness and implores Faye to shoot Ripley. Instead, Faye turns the weapon on Devin, ending his life. This drastic turn of events sets up a moral quandary for Lenox and Ripley, potentially jeopardizing their medical careers.

Confronted with a dead body and a traumatized Faye, Ripley and Lenox orchestrate a cover-up, making it appear as though Faye acted in self-defense when she shot Devin. This narrative helps all three evade legal trouble. Despite skepticism from authorities about Faye’s intentions, the trio remains united, seemingly leaving the incident in the past.

Throughout Season 11, Lenox and Ripley’s relationship has been complex. At the end of “Triple Threat,” Lenox rejects Ripley’s attempts at friendship, mindful of her terminal illness diagnosis, and continues to keep others at a distance. Ripley’s own journey, marked by an addiction storyline and a harrowing escape from a collapsed tunnel in Season 10, has left him in need of companionship. Although their shared secret could bring them closer, it’s uncertain if a deeper bond is in their future.

Ripley and Lenox are in this one together

Left with a dead body and a traumatized woman, Ripley and Lenox do the only thing they can do — they stage the scene and make it look like Faye shot Devin in an act of self-defense. The act seems to get all three of them off the hook, and while no one at the police station seems to believe that Faye shot her abusive husband without intent of malice, they stay a unified front and seem to put the incident behind them.

Lenox and Ripley have had a mixed bag of a relationship over the course of Season 11, though she rebuffs his blatant overtures of friendship at the end of “Triple Threat.” She remains conscious of her prior disease diagnosis, which has been deemed terminal, and continues to keep everyone at arm’s length. In the wake of his addiction storyline, which sparked exit rumors during Season 10 and changed him forever, along with a nearly deadly trip down a collapsed tunnel, Ripley could use a friend. But even with this new secret binding them together, it’s difficult to say whether a warmer connection might be around the corner for both of them.
