In a recent safety announcement, wireless chargers designed to magnetically attach to the backs of smartphones are being pulled from the market due to serious concerns over potential fire and burn risks.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall on Thursday for more than 20,000 Isla Rae Magnetic Wireless Chargers across the United States and Canada. These devices reportedly pose significant safety hazards, with the CPSC warning that the chargers could potentially explode during use.
Approximately 13,200 of these chargers were distributed in the United States, with an additional 3,000 units sold in Canada. The recall specifically targets models with the numbers RM5PBMDP, RM5PBMSL, and RM5PBMPW. These identifiers can be found printed on the side of the charger just beneath the “5000 mAh 3.7V” marking.

Customers are urged to stop using the chargers, which can attach magnetically to the back of smart phones, and register for a recall here. The website is for U.S. customers. Canadian customers can call 888-256-1564 for more information.Â
Once the refund is initiated, it will come in the form of a physical check and the customer can get rid of the charger per their local laws regarding lithium ion batteries. Do not throw these charges away in household trashcans.Â
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission requests people not throw away the recalled unit since the battery can cause fires. Contact your local municipal household hazardous waste collection center to see where you can properly dispose of the recalled charger.Â
