Mom killed by federal agent revealed to be anti-ICE 'warrior'

A Minneapolis mother of three, known for her activism against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was fatally shot by a federal agent during a protest. Renee Nicole Good, aged 37, was an outspoken advocate who organized efforts to monitor and oppose immigration operations alongside fellow activists.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when Good was shot while driving an SUV that was obstructing a residential street amidst demonstrations against an ICE operation. The federal agent involved, identified as Jonathan ‘Jon’ Ross, has been accused of murder by outraged Democrats. However, the Trump administration has defended Ross, claiming he acted in self-defense, alleging that Good appeared to be attempting to run him over with her vehicle.

Friends of Good have disclosed that she was deeply involved in a network of activists. This network, coordinated through her six-year-old son’s charter school, was committed to resisting ICE operations.

“She was a warrior. She died doing what was right,” shared Leesa, a fellow parent at the school, in an interview with The New York Post.

‘She was a warrior. She died doing what was right,’ a mother named Leesa who has a child at the same school as Good’s son told The New York Post.

‘[Renee Good] was trained against these ICE agents — what to do, what not to do, it’s a very thorough training.

‘I know she was doing the right thing. I watched the video plenty of times but I also know in my heart the woman she was, she was doing everything right.’

According to the publication, Southside Family Charter School has publicly boasted of having a ‘social justice first’ approach to learning and ‘involving kids in political and social activism’.

Good and her wife, Rebecca, moved to the area just last year and enrolled their six-year-old boy in classes at the woke charter school.

They are understood to have fled the US after Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, going briefly to Canada before settling in Minneapolis.

There, Good became involved in the school community and the local ‘ICE Watch’ group, which is a coalition of activists who seek to disrupt ICE raids.

Former gym teacher Rashad Rich, who recently resigned from the school, said: ‘A lot of parents are [activists]’ within the school community.

‘From my understanding, she was involved in social justice … we are a tight-knit community.’

In the classroom, he claimed young students were taught about social justice issues from George Floyd’s death to Aboriginal rights issues in Australia.

There are similar groups across the nation, particularly in Democrat-led sanctuary cities which are actively resisting Trump’s deportation operations.

These activists use phone apps to alert residents of ICE vehicles and operations, honk their car horns to warn their neighbors if they see immigration agents and whistle as a signal to those around them.

As part of this training, Good allegedly learned to listen to commands and to understand her rights.

Michelle Gross, the president of the Minnesota-based Community United Against Police Brutality and a paralegal for the National Lawyers Guild, also reflected on Good’s anti-ICE activism on Thursday.

She said the mother-of-three was a volunteer in a network of ‘neighborhood patrols’ comprising hundreds of community members and organized by local activists to track, monitor and record ICE operations in Minneapolis.

Gross, who claimed she had ‘first-hand’ knowledge of Good’s participation in the ICE-‘observer’ patrols, said ‘that’s what she was doing’ when she was confronted and shot.

She disputed all allegations that Good was actively impeding the work of ICE agents, and instead argued she was trying to turn her car around and leave the scene when officers converged on her car and one of the agents opened fire.

Videos show agents approaching Good’s stationary vehicle, asking her to exit, and one tugs at the door handle as she starts to reverse.

Ross stands in front of the car and draws his weapon, pointing it at Good as she starts moving forward, which is when he opens fire. Good’s Honda Pilot crashed nearby and she was declared dead at the scene.

Amy Swearer, a senior legal fellow at conservative nonprofit Advancing American Freedom, told the Daily Mail that under the law, the use of deadly force is justified when an officer can reasonably perceive a threat of serious bodily harm or death.

‘You have an officer who is trying to conduct a lawful detention of a driver who is blocking the road, trying to impede law enforcement as they’re going down that road. That driver is not being compliant with these lawful commands, and, in fact, seems to be trying to escape that situation,’ Swearer said.

There has been much speculation online over the direction of the wheels as Good appears to be turning down the road away from the officers.

Others have questioned why Ross was standing in front of the car, but Swearer explained that both points are irrelevant to the law.

‘He explicitly does not have a duty to retreat in the way that a civilian would under these circumstances,’ she said.

‘It doesn’t matter whether that driver subjectively was not trying to hit the officer,’ Swearer added. ‘It matters what the officer can reasonably perceive. He can’t read her mind. He just knows that you have someone who’s ignoring lawful commands, who is moving the car toward him. That is deadly force.’

Ross is an ‘experienced’ officer who last year suffered gruesome injuries as he tried to arrest an illegal immigrant sex offender.

‘He’s the same ICE agent who got dragged by car 50 feet back in June, so he has a history,’ an FBI agent who spoke to the Daily Mail on condition of anonymity confirmed.

The FBI agent noted that he does not believe Ross was justified in his shooting of Good.

‘Shot one, sort of can be argued, but shots two and three – they cannot be argued.’

Minneapolis has remained on edge since Good’s death, with protesters gathered outside the city’s immigration court on Thursday for further demonstrations.

Activists were seen carrying signs and chanting, including some signs that say, ‘ICE Out Now,’ ‘We deserve to be safe in our community,’ and ‘Resist Fascism.’

Chants included ‘We Keep Us Safe,’ ‘ICE Out Now,’ ‘ICE Go Home,’ ‘Quit Your Job’ and ‘Justice Now!’

Schools have cancelled classes and activities as a safety precaution as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has issued calls for people to remain calm.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has deployed more than 2,000 officers to the area in what it says is its largest immigration enforcement operation ever.
