A recent discovery in a Texas bayou marks the first body found this year, yet it is the fourth such grim find within a fortnight.
According to KPRC, the most recent body was discovered in Houston’s Buffalo Bayou. Police Lieutenant Larry Crowson stated that a maintenance crew stumbled upon the body, believed to be that of a man, while cleaning the area.
The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still being investigated.
In the previous year, at least 34 individuals were discovered deceased in Houston’s bayous, following a similar tally of 35 in 2024. One notable incident saw authorities seeking public assistance in identifying a man found on Christmas Eve in Buffalo Bayou. Although the cause of death remains unknown, police released images of his tattoos to aid in identification, as reported by KRIV.
Back in September, five individuals, including 20-year-old University of Houston student Jade McKissic, were found dead in the bayous. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has listed the deaths of McKissic, Rodney Chatman, Seth Hansen, and Michael Rice as undetermined.
In September, officials denied speculation that the deaths were the work of a serial killer. They also claimed there was no indication that any of the deaths were the result of foul play. They attributed many of these deaths to the city’s issues with substance abuse, mental health, and homelessness.
However, the Houston Chronicle noted that 68 of these bayou cases are listed as undetermined — meaning there is limited evidence surrounding their deaths.
Anyone with information regarding the Christmas Eve case should call the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences at their main number 832-927-5000 or their forensic investigations department at 832-927-5001.
