The much-anticipated Season 4 of The Traitors debuted this week, delivering three thrilling episodes that set the stage for an exciting new season. Alan Cumming returned to his role as the charismatic host of the suspense-filled reality series, unveiling a fresh twist to keep both contestants and viewers on their toes.
Longtime fans will recognize that each season of The Traitors brings its own unique flavor, and this installment is no exception. Alan has introduced an intriguing element—a “secret Traitor”—which adds a layer of complexity to the game like never before.
Traditionally, the audience has had the privilege of knowing who the Traitors are from the outset, with Alan personally selecting them in a dramatic reveal. This season takes a different approach, as the selection of a “secret Traitor” was made in front of the entire group. Each participant was handed a box to open, revealing their role in this suspenseful game of deception.
There Will Be A Secret Fourth Traitor
In the past, the viewers have always been aware of who the Traitors are, watching as Alan selects them by hand. This time, however, he chose a “secret Traitor” in front of the full group, having each member open a box to reveal their fate.
Starting the game this way allowed the other contestants to track one another’s expressions, looking for someone who seemed suspicious or nervous. This time around, fans will be trying to get to the bottom of the mystery with the Faithfuls in real time.

The Traitors Must Work With The Secret Traitor
That isn’t the only twist involving the secret Traitor, however. Alan proceeded to pick three primary Traitors, informing them that they’d have to work alongside their counterpart in an unconventional way.
That is, the secret Traitor would be responsible for selecting a “short list” of names from the remaining contestants, and the other three Traitors would choose who to eliminate out of those options. The twist makes it that much harder to strategize, as the Traitors in the turret don’t have full control over who they want to murder.
