A Nigerian individual has ignited a heated debate online by sharing a provocative perspective on marriage customs within the Jehovah’s Witness community.
In a widely circulated post on X (previously known as Twitter), he asserted that followers of this faith are only permitted to divorce their partners on the grounds of infidelity. Other reasons, such as abuse or irreconcilable differences, do not meet the criteria for a legitimate separation in the eyes of the church.
He further elaborated that this stringent policy has, on occasion, prompted some members to intentionally commit adultery to obtain what the church deems an “approved” divorce.
In his own words:
In his words:
“It’s crazy, but some people literally commit adultery to get a divorce they’re otherwise forbidden from having.”
The revelation drew strong reactions online. Some readers were shocked at the harshness of the rule, while others questioned its accuracy.
One commentator wrote, “Church and strict rules, it is well.” Another said, “This is a fat lie, so untrue.”
In conclusion he noted that Jehovah Witness divorce rules are far stricter than many realize, and in certain cases, these rules can even push members to break the very guidelines they are expected to follow.
