Over the weekend, Yaya Mayweather and her family gathered to celebrate her son KJ’s fifth birthday with an exciting basketball-themed party.

Shared online were clips showing KJ, the son of Mayweather and rapper NBA Youngboy, entering the party blindfolded. Once he removed the blindfold, he was thrilled to discover the celebration was in his honor.

In a heartwarming moment, the young boy sprinted over and leaped into the arms of his grandfather, Floyd Mayweather, as attendees erupted in applause.

KJ’s grandmother, Melissia Reneé, was present to capture the touching scene on video, ensuring the memory was preserved.

The festive occasion followed Yaya Mayweather’s earlier social media claims that NBA YoungBoy hadn’t been involved in the birthday planning, and that her father had stepped up to make the event possible.

In a statement shared on Instagram Stories a few days later, Yaya walked back her comments and acknowledged that she should not have taken her frustrations to social media, writing, “I want to apologize for bringing personal issues between me and my child’s father to the internet. That was something that should have stayed private.”

She continued, “Emotions were high and we weren’t seeing eye to eye, but that doesn’t justify it. I reacted out of frustration and I own that.”

Mayweather also addressed claims she previously made about NBA YoungBoy not taking care of their son.

“I also want to correct the things I said about him not helping with our son because that was wrong,” she wrote. “He does help. Anytime I ask him for anything no matter what it is… even if it’s for me he makes it happen.”

She explained that the disagreement stemmed from a delay related to money for their son’s birthday.

She added, “We spoke and he said he would give me the money that was paid for our son’s birthday back. I just got upset because it wasn’t happening as quickly as I wanted and I let my emotions take over.”

Addressing their co-parenting dynamic, Mayweather said the two are working toward healthier communication. “We’re both learning how to communicate and co-parent in a healthy way for our child’s sake, and for our own peace,” she wrote.
