A Nigerian woman has ignited a considerable online discussion after voicing her concerns about what she perceives as the increasing acceptance of the baby mama trend in the nation.
Through a video that has gained significant attention on X (previously known as Twitter), shared by @it_Ruth, she cautioned that many women find themselves in distressing and unstable circumstances by choosing to have children with men they haven’t married. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing marriage before motherhood.
She expressed her viewpoint by stating:
“Nigerian girls, we must put a stop to this baby mama madness. If a man isn’t your husband, please do not get pregnant for him.”
She further elaborated that factors like wealth, fame, or hollow promises should not compel a woman to have a child outside of marriage.
The lady further stated that even if Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, or award-winning singer Wizkid wanted to be her baby daddy, she would still say no.
According to her, many men are comfortable having children but are often unwilling to commit to marriage afterward.
“Men will not want to marry a baby mama. Most Nigerian men do not want to end up marrying a baby mama. No ring, no baby. If you’re not his wife, don’t have a child for him,” she added.
Her statement sharply divided opinions online, while many agreed with her stance and praised her for speaking boldly, others argued that marriage does not always guarantee stability, commitment, or happiness.
