A U-Haul truck struck a group of demonstrators during an anti-Iranian regime rally in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, injuring at least three individuals. The incident occurred as members of the city’s Iranian-American community gathered to express solidarity with protesters in Iran who are confronting a harsh government crackdown.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that although two people were assessed at the scene, they declined further medical treatment and transportation. Firefighter-paramedics also responded to reports of a third injured person in the vicinity, though details about this individual’s condition have not been disclosed by officials.

Communities of Iranian-Americans across the United States have been organizing rallies to support those in Iran protesting against violent repression by security forces.

The demonstration in Los Angeles was part of a larger movement of solidarity events in American cities, aligning with ongoing mass protests in Iran against the regime. ABC News highlighted the incident on Sunday afternoon, which attracted hundreds who came to voice their support for the Iranian freedom movement.

Death Toll Mounts in Iran as Protests Spread Nationwide

The demonstration in Los Angeles occurred as the death toll from mass protests inside Iran has risen to over 500 people, said the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency on Sunday.

The monitoring group said it has confirmed the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 members of security forces. At least 10,600 people have been arrested, said HRANA.

The problem is that American media outlets have been unable to verify those numbers. The Iranian government has not provided any death tolls during the ongoing protests, though their estimates run the same risk of being unverifiable, given the regime’s control over the country.

HRANA said in its Saturday update that it had recorded 574 protest locations across 185 cities and all 31 provinces of the country. Saturday marked the fourteenth day of protests in the country.
